NATO's young leader: Trump greeted specially

Iceland's Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir, who received special attention from US President Donald Trump during the NATO summit, has become the focus of international media.

Modern.az reports that 38-year-old Kristrún Frostadóttir is currently one of the youngest leaders holding the position of head of government among NATO countries. She took office as Prime Minister of Iceland on December 21, 2024, and leads the Social Democratic Alliance Party.  

Frostadóttir, who has an economics background, received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iceland, a master's in economics from Boston University, and a master's in international economics from Yale University. Before entering politics, she worked at Arion Bank, Kvika Bank, the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, and the US investment bank “Morgan Stanley”. She also worked as an economic analyst and journalist.  

Kristrún Frostadóttir was first elected to parliament in 2021, and in 2022, she became the chair of the Social Democratic Alliance Party. After her party's victory in the snap parliamentary elections, she formed a three-party coalition government and was appointed Prime Minister. 

Frostadóttir is known for her policies aimed at economic reforms, strengthening social welfare, solving the housing problem, and reducing inflation. Her government has also initiated a referendum on resuming the country's European Union membership negotiations.
