President Ilham Aliyev has signed a Decree on additional measures in the field of improving waste management.
Modern.az reports that, according to the Decree, the State Agency for Waste Management has been established under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
The Decree stipulates that the Agency is a p included in the structure of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which exercises state control, regulation, and coordination in the field of waste management (waste generation, collection, sorting, transportation, placement, processing, use, utilization, neutralization, and burial) and collection of waste fees.
The Cabinet of Ministers shall, within two months, prepare and submit to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan proposals on the draft regulations and structure of the Agency, as well as the maximum number of its employees; within four months, proposals on improving the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Waste" and other normative legal acts related to waste management, taking into account part 2 of this Decree, as well as advanced international experience; and within five months, proposals on the draft "National Strategy for Improving Solid Household Waste Management in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2027–2030" in coordination with the draft "Socio-Economic Development Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2027–2030"; take necessary measures within two months to resolve issues of material and technical provision of the Agency and financing of its maintenance costs, and provide it with an administrative building; and resolve other issues arising from this Decree.
