The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that cultural and humanitarian ties between Russia and Azerbaijan have recently weakened and now need to be strengthened.

Modern.az reports that Mikhail Kalugin, Director of the Fourth Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for CIS countries, stated this in an interview with TASS.

According to him, full-fledged bilateral cooperation is not possible without close cultural and humanitarian ties.

Kalugin noted that "Unfortunately, it is precisely this area that has weakened recently, and now it is time to strengthen them."

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also drew attention to promising projects in this area. These include the establishment of a joint university in Azerbaijan at St. Petersburg State University, as well as the opening of schools at the embassies of the two countries in Moscow and Baku.
