Russia may unilaterally suspend or denounce the agreement on the supply of natural gas, oil products, and unprocessed diamonds to Armenia if the country continues its process of joining the European Union.

Modern.az reports that “Kommersant” published this information.

The publication claims that Russia's Minister of Energy, Sergey Tsivilyov, sent a letter to Armenia's Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure on May 25 regarding the issue.

The letter states that Armenia's steps towards integration into the European Union “do not correspond to the nature of the partnership formed between the governments and economic entities of our countries over decades based on principles of mutual respect and benefit.”

It was also emphasized that Russia has repeatedly taken practical steps to meet Armenia's critical needs on preferential terms.

It should be noted that the agreement in question was signed in December 2013. Under that agreement, Russia indefinitely abolished customs duties on the export of gas, oil products, and unprocessed diamonds to Armenia.
