Zohran Mamdani has unveiled a large-scale housing program planned for the next 10 years. The project is considered one of the most ambitious housing initiatives in the US in recent years.

It is noted that within the framework of the program, it is planned to build 200,000 affordable apartments and preserve another 200,000 existing residential areas. According to the project, $22 billion is planned to be allocated for housing construction, and $5.6 billion for the modernization of the city's housing stock.
According to the document, the minimum wage for construction workers employed in city projects will be $40 per hour. At the same time, it is planned to strengthen control over construction norms and simplify rules related to modular housing.
Mamdani stated that the main cause of the housing crisis is the shortage of residential areas.
“To reduce housing prices, more housing needs to be built,” he emphasized.
The plan has also sparked discussions within the US Democratic Party. The discussion revolves around whether it is possible to simultaneously protect high-paying jobs with large-scale construction. Mamdani, however, believes that the city can both build more housing and ensure decent wages for workers.
