Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) may decide to hold early presidential elections in November.
Modern.az reports that, according to "Cumhuriyet" newspaper, this scenario may become relevant if trust in the government increases after the implementation of new economic and social support measures.
According to the newspaper, party circles are discussing the impact of the social and economic package expected to be announced in October. Its effectiveness is planned to be evaluated based on the results of opinion polls.
The newspaper writes: "If the polls show an increase in support for the ruling bloc, the option of holding early elections in November will be considered more seriously."
However, there is no consensus within the party yet. Some AK Party leaders believe that holding elections without a significant improvement in the economic situation carries serious risks. Others, on the contrary, believe that the expected increase in wages and social benefits can help strengthen the government's position among voters.
According to the publication's sources, the final decision will be made based on the results of public opinion polls that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will examine.
"Cumhuriyet" newspaper notes that against this background, the upcoming political season could be one of the most eventful seasons for Turkey in recent years.
Erdoğan previously stated that the next presidential elections should be held as planned - in May 2028.
According to a survey conducted by the research company ASAL Araştırma, approximately 60% of Turkish citizens support holding early general elections.
