The European Union (EU) has imposed sanctions against the Russian technology company VK.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that a document published in the official journal of the EU states that VK is the parent company of "Communication Platform". According to the document, this company developed the "Max" messenger created by Russia, and it is claimed that the project's development was supervised by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).
The document notes that, according to a number of experts, the "Max" application has extensive tracking capabilities. It is stated that the application can collect information about other programs installed on the phone, determine the contact list and the user's geolocation, and also perform automatic updates.
The EU document also emphasizes that the implementation and promotion of the Max application in Russia has been accompanied by pressure against independent platforms. This includes blocking applications such as WhatsApp and Telegram, as well as campaigns aimed at restricting the use of VPN services.
In addition, the EU believes that VK, in cooperation with the Russian authorities, transferred user data criticizing the war against Ukraine to state bodies and participated in the implementation of restrictions imposed by the government against VPN services.
