The US has reimposed sanctions on Russian oil.
Modern.az reports that "Politico" has published information about this. It is stated that the decision is related to the Donald Trump administration not extending the grace period applied before this weekend.
It is noted that the US Treasury Department last month granted a temporary reprieve from sanctions on Russian oil to stabilize energy prices in response to Iran's de facto blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and US-Israeli attacks.
That grace period expired on April 11, and as a result, sanctions have re-entered into force. Although the US Treasury Department did not answer further questions on the matter, Secretary Scott Bessent had previously described the move as a “short-term measure.”
Some members of the US Senate had called on the administration not to extend the grace period. Previously, "Reuters" agency wrote that the White House could extend the sanctions license.
According to the information, tensions with Iran and the temporary reprieve from sanctions allowed Russia to obtain additional oil and gas revenues, and these revenues are projected to exceed 1 trillion rubles in April.
