Saudi Arabia has introduced new rules to prevent increasing crowds ahead of the Hajj season. According to the decision, entry to the city of Mecca will now be possible only with a special permit.
Modern.az reports that this was stated in a statement by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Interior.
It was reported that from April 14, individuals wishing to enter Mecca must obtain official permission from the relevant authorities. Entry to the city will be prohibited for those without permission.
Those with residence permits in Mecca, Hajj visa holders, and individuals working in the holy areas are exempt from this rule.
According to the decision, foreign visitors in the country with Umrah visas must leave the country by April 18, 2026. It was stated that individuals remaining in the country after this date may face sanctions.
Also, the issuance of Umrah permits through the “Nusuk” platform will be temporarily suspended between April 18 and May 31. This step is aimed at managing the crowds before Hajj.
Officials emphasized that strict measures will be taken against individuals attempting unauthorized Hajj pilgrimages. Those who violate the rule face a ban on entry to the country and a fine of up to 20,000 riyals.
According to official data, more than 1.6 million people participated in the Hajj pilgrimage last year. It was stated that the main purpose of the new rules is to control the crowds, increase security, and ensure a more orderly organization of worship.
