US President Donald Trump is expected to visit China on May 13-15. According to international media, US-China relations, the trade war, technology competition, and regional security issues will be the main topics of discussion during the visit.

Modern.az reports that mutual visits between leaders of Washington and Beijing are considered among the most important diplomatic events in world politics.

Richard Nixon was the first US president to visit China in US history. In 1972, he went to Beijing and met with Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai. That visit is considered a turning point in US-China relations and one of the most important diplomatic steps of the "Cold War" era.

In 1975, Gerald Ford also visited China and held talks aimed at normalizing relations.

In 1984, Ronald Reagan held talks in Beijing. Economic cooperation and security issues were high on the agenda during the visit. George Herbert Walker Bush is considered one of the American leaders with the closest ties to China. Before being elected president, he headed the US mission in Beijing and visited China in 1989.

In 1998, Bill Clinton became the next US president to visit China. Human rights, economic relations, and the Taiwan issue were among the main topics of discussion during the visit.

George W. Bush visited China several times during his presidency. He was in Beijing in 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2008. Bush also attended the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

Barack Obama visited China in 2009, 2014, and 2016. Climate change, international security, and economic cooperation were central to his visits.

In 2017, Donald Trump was welcomed in Beijing with a special state ceremony. He met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss trade relations, North Korea, and global security issues.

Although Joe Biden has not visited China as president, he traveled to Beijing several times during his vice presidency.

Visits by Chinese leaders to the US have also been of particular importance in the relations between the two countries. In 1979, Deng Xiaoping made a historic visit to the US. He met with Jimmy Carter in Washington, laying the foundation for a new stage of official diplomatic relations between the two countries. Deng Xiaoping's image with a cowboy hat in Texas is considered one of the symbols of that era.

In 1997, Chinese leader Jiang Zemin visited the US. He was welcomed with an official ceremony at the White House and held meetings with members of the US Congress.

Hu Jintao visited the US in 2006 and 2011. During the meetings, economic cooperation, security, and nuclear issues became the main subjects of discussion.

Current leader Xi Jinping has also visited the US several times. In 2015, he met with Barack Obama in Washington as part of a state visit. In 2023, he met with Joe Biden at the APEC summit in San Francisco.

Finally, it is worth noting that mutual visits by US and Chinese leaders have a significant impact not only on relations between the two countries but also on the formation of the global political and economic balance.
