As we reported, 4 people died and 20 people were injured as a result of an armed attack in a high school in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey.
Modern.az reports, citing “Hürriyet”, that Minister of Internal Affairs Mustafa Çiftçi, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin and Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu have left for the scene.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident.
According to the latest information, Uğur Mersinli, the father of the attacker, has been arrested.
The incident took place on April 14, in the afternoon, at Ayser Çalık Secondary School in Haydarbey neighborhood of Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş. Allegedly, an 8th grade student came to the school with a hunting rifle, entered two classrooms and started shooting randomly. After the news, a large number of police officers were sent to the scene.
The student who committed the armed attack is reportedly named İsa Aras Mersinli. He brought the weapon to school hidden in his bag.
Among the dead as a result of the incident, 1 is a teacher and 3 are students. It is said that 4 of the 20 injured are in serious condition.
The real cause of the incident is not yet known.
Kahramanmaraş Governor Mükerrem Ünlüer told the media that the attacking student also died.
“He also shot himself in the moment of confusion. It is not yet known whether it was for the purpose of suicide or if he shot himself during the confusion. The father of the 8th grade student who caused the incident is a former police officer. We assume that he took his father's weapon from home. He came with 5 weapons and 7 magazines, and entered 2 classrooms.”
