In Azerbaijan, the age limit for warrant officers and midshipmen to be in reserve has been increased.

Modern.az reports that this is reflected in the “On the Approval of the Regulations on Military Service” and the “Law on Military Duty and Military Service” approved by President Ilham Aliyev.

According to the law, considering that military personnel who have received education in specialized secondary vocational education institutions training military personnel, as well as in analogous secondary vocational education institutions of foreign countries, are specialized professional cadres, and with the aim of utilizing their knowledge and skills for a longer period in the defense of our country, the project stipulates that the period of active military service in peacetime for warrant officers and midshipmen who have graduated from specialized secondary vocational education institutions training military personnel, as well as analogous secondary vocational education institutions of foreign countries, will be 10 years.

In accordance with paragraph “v” of Article 26 and Article 36.1.3 of the respective laws currently in force, the list of persons eligible for admission to active military service as warrant officers and midshipmen also includes military conscripts up to 40 years of age (excluding officers).

According to the amendment, the phrase “military conscripts up to 40 years of age” has been clarified and replaced with the phrase “reserve warrant officers and midshipmen who have not reached the maximum age limit for military service, reserve soldiers, sailors, sergeants up to 40 years of age”.

Furthermore, in the tables reflected in Articles 172 and 44.1, respectively, of the aforementioned laws currently in force, the maximum age limits for soldiers, sailors, sergeants, warrant officers, and midshipmen to be in reserve are determined on the same line. By amending the tables reflected in those articles, the age limits for warrant officers and midshipmen to be in reserve will be determined on a separate line, with the age limit for first-class reserve warrant officers and midshipmen being 35 years, for second-class reserve warrant officers and midshipmen being 45 years, and for third-class reserve warrant officers and midshipmen being 55 years.

Articles 175 and 45.2, respectively, of the aforementioned laws stipulate the periods for calling up reserve military conscripts for military training camps.

According to the amendment, first-class reserve military conscripts are to be called up for military training camps up to ten times, each for a period of up to 1 month. In addition, military conscripts transferred to the reserve of the relevant executive authority will be called up for military training camps up to five times, each for a period of up to 2 months.

It should be noted that currently, according to paragraph “q” of Article 12 and the requirements of Article 38.1.4, respectively, of the “Regulations on Military Service” and the “Law on Military Duty and Military Service” currently in force, the period of active military service in peacetime for all warrant officers and midshipmen is set at 5 years.
