Master plans for 8 cities in the liberated territories have been approved.

Modern.az reports that Anar Guliyev, national coordinator of WUF13 and chairman of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, stated this at a special session on "Cities at the Center of Connection: Urban Reconstruction and Regional Cooperation" within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.

He noted that the restoration and reconstruction process in the liberated territories is being carried out based on a large-scale urban planning approach.

According to the national coordinator, there are more than 750 registered historical and cultural monuments in the liberated territories.

"Many of them have suffered serious damage over the past decades. Currently, more than 21 monuments have been restored, and new memorial complexes, museums, and cultural institutions are being designed."

A. Guliyev also added that master plans for 8 cities in the liberated territories have already been approved, and plans for 4 more cities are being finalized:

"The total planned urban area is more than 10 thousand hectares. It is projected that the population in these areas will exceed 354 thousand by 2040.

Aghdam is being rebuilt as one of the main economic and urban centers of the liberated territories. The city is planned for a population of 100 thousand people and covers an area of approximately 2 thousand hectares. According to the master plan, Aghdam will have more than 3 million square meters of residential area, a 200-hectare industrial park, residential neighborhoods, and transport infrastructure."

The committee chairman emphasized that Zangilan is being developed based on the "park city" concept:

"The city is planned for 16 thousand people and covers an area of more than 330 hectares. More than 70 hectares of this are public parks and green zones.

Shusha holds a special place in Azerbaijan's historical, cultural, and urban planning heritage. The city is designed for a population of 25 thousand people and covers an area of approximately 300 hectares. Here, the restoration of the historical center, the creation of the Victory Museum, the establishment of modern residential neighborhoods, and the development of tourism infrastructure are among the main directions.

Kalbajar, taking into account its rich natural resources, mountain landscape, and recreational opportunities, is being developed as a health and ecotourism destination," A. Guliyev noted.
