The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reacted harshly to the distortion of the map of Azerbaijan on Russian state television.
Modern.az reports that Aykhan Hajizada, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, stated this in response to journalists' questions.
According to him, the display of a distorted map of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the program "Time Will Tell" ("vremya pokajet") of the Russian state channel "Channel 1" on May 6, and the inclusion of the non-existent phrase "Nagorno-Karabakh" on the map, is a serious provocation and unacceptable political manipulation:
"The sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been fully restored, and this reality is recognized by the international community, including the Russian Federation. The dissemination of outdated, fake, and separatist narratives on the state television of the Russian Federation, while Russia declares its respect for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty and that it has never been questioned, is openly contrary to the spirit of Azerbaijan-Russia relations, mutual respect, and good neighborly relations.
The irresponsible and biased approach of state-owned media resources is unacceptable, and an clear explanation from the other side, as well as necessary measures to prevent such incidents from recurring, is expected."
